FAQ

What is psychosexual therapy?

A: Sex therapy is a specialized area of psychotherapy that addresses specific sexual issues and concerns.  A detailed list of services is offered in the "about us" section.

There is no physical contact between the therapist and the client.  The therapist is a licensed mental health professional, trained to provide in-depth psychotherapy with a specialization in clinical human sexuality.

Who does sex therapy help?

A: Services are offered to individuals and couples who have sexual concerns.

People of all ages, sexual orientations, genders, religions, and ethnicities may benefit from the help of a sex therapist.

What will sessions with a sex therapist be like?

A: Sex therapy is generally a short-term treatment model, ranging from 5-25 sessions.

Some issues may take longer, for example, recovering from a history of childhood sexual abuse.

In the first session, the therapist will obtain a complete sexual history.  Time will be spent talking with the client about specific sexual concerns.

Throughout your work together, the therapist will  give “assignments” to be completed at home, such as:

-Reading literature about related sexual issues.

-Watching clinical sexuality videos that address specific sexual concerns.

-Touching exercises with self and/or a partner, designed to address the clinical issues identified in therapy.

-Exercises to improve sexual communication skills

What if I have other mental health concerns?

A: A holistic approach to therapy is utilized, which includes treatment of a variety of other issues.  When needed, sessions will focus on areas of mental health, separate from sexuality.  Examples of other areas of specialty include:

~Addiction
~Anxiety
~Bipolar Disorder
~Depression
~Eating Disorders
~Grief and Loss
~Posttraumatic Stress Disorder

Can I bring my partner?

A: Yes!  In fact, couples therapy is encouraged, especially when the concern is one of difficulty with sexual responding, desire, or intimacy.

How do I schedule an appointment?

A: Please feel free to call or email me to discuss scheduling an appointment
